Cyberbond holds approvals for both USP class VI and ISO 10993 classifications. The norm ISO 10993, however, consists of various tests. The most important aspect is the biological compatibility which is the compatibility of an article on/ or inside a body. Cyberbond hold approvals include the following certifications:

ISO 10993-5 : Test for in vitro cytotoxicity: An Agar diffusion test checks if cyanoacrylates destroy a cell culture.
ISO 10993-10 : Tests for irritation and delayed-type hypersensitivity: Rabbits are injected intradermal. This means that the extracted cyanoacrylate is injected via a substrate in the deep layers of the dermis. The goal is to find out if, due to vascular dilation, there is an inflammable flush of the skin (erythma) or an accumulation of liquids (edema).
• ISO 10993-11 : Tests for systemic toxicity: Mice are injected with the extracted cyanoacrylates via a substrate intravenously and intraperitoneal (in the abdominal cavity). There mustn’t be a biological reaction by the body.
• USP Class VI: USP 25, NF 20 : Biological Reactivity Tests in vivo: This test is similar to 10993-10. In this test, mice and rabbits are injected intradermal. Besides, the medium was implanted in the paravertebral muscles of rabbits. No noticeable reactions should occur.

Frame Fast

Since its introduction, the Frame Fast® Adhesive System has been the standard for screen printers, milling professionals and industrial filter manufacturers throughout the world. These patented products are designed to bond various types of mesh to wood, aluminium and steel frames.

Cyberbond offers a wide range of Cyanoacrylate adhesives with varying attributes and viscosities. Various accelerators and screen adhesive removers complete the Frame Fast® line of products. Frame Fast® is a trademark of uncommon conglomerates inc. USA. In 2002 this company was acquired by Cyberbond LLC, USA and was integrated into the world wide operating Cyberbond family. In Europe, the well known brand name of Frame Fast® is certainly still used.

Next to the manual application, Cyberbond refer to its LINOP Dosing Equipment Program, which offers a variety of options to automatically apply the adhesive. State of the art represents the assembly of the Adhesive Valve and the Activator Spray Head on a robot arm. Due to different legislation in terms of handling chemicals, it may be that products differ slightly compared to the American grades. But this is mainly valid for solvent based activators and removers. Products with the same numbers in USA and Europe are of course identical.

The products offered are :
  • FF 106
  • FF 115
  • FF 270
  • FF 280
  • FF 290

Paleobond

Paleo-Bond products are developed and field tested by paleontologists for paleontologists. Anyone who is involved with paleontology knows that fossil recovery and preparation is time and labour intensive. Equipment and materials need to be of the highest quality to ensure success.

Paleo-Bond is a line of products that has been created specifically to aid in fossil collection, preparation and preservation. With Paleo-Bond, you always have the assurance that the products you are using have been made by people who care as much about fossil recovery as you do.

The Paleo-Bond fossil Penetrant Stabilizer has been developed to penetrate and stabilize fragile, porous fossil remains. When alkaline materials in the substrate interior consume the acidic stabilizer in the adhesive, it initiates the curing mechanism. This ensures that the entire volume of adhesive will be cured. Unlike other adhesives that may leave uncured material trapped inside a thin layer of adhesive, Paleo-Bond cures from the inside out, providing the best stabilisation process available.

Cracks in field-excavated specimens are a fact of life for us, and if they can be repaired during excavation, later preparation is much easier. Paleo-Bond Adhesives come in various viscosities that range from 5 to 2,500 mPa*s and in Gel form.

In order to allow a perfect bonding Paleo-Bond offers an Activator and a Debonder as an additional programme for Cyanoacrylate Adhesives.

PB002 – Cyanoacrylate Primer

This is the workhorse of the Paleo-Bond family. PB 002 is a primer for other adhesives as well. Due to its very low viscosity of 5 mPas, it penetrates deep into the vascular system of a fossil bone. To sum up, it fills micro cracks, strengthening the entire fossil structure. It captures punky, weak fossil material and hardens it in minutes.

PB4417 – Cyanoacrylate Field Collecting Reversible Adhesive

In the field, it is often wanted to hold something together prior to the final laboratory preparation. There are often dirty, out of alignment fossil parts that need a light bond to preserve integrity from field to lab. PB 4417 stabilizer with a viscosity of 5 mPa*s can be either air scribed or air abraded away, as you are preparing the specimen for permanent restoration. Two years of field testing have given Cyberbond the « go ahead » with this new product.

PB40, PB100, PB750 & PB1500 – Cyanoacrylate Structural Adhesives

These are the high strength adhesives used when you bond your fossils back together. Each adhesive has a different thickness (viscosity/centipoises); the higher the number, the thicker the adhesive. You need a strong adhesive to make up the difference of error between the two opposing surfaces you intend to bond together.

 Products   Viscosity  Use
 BP40  Low viscosity: 40 maPa*s  For microcracks
 BP100  Medium viscosity: 100 mPas*s  0,015 mm gap filling
 BP750  High viscosity: 1,00 mPa*s  0,050 mm gap filling
BP1500  Very high viscosity: 2,50 mPa*s  0,250 mm gap filling, still flowable

PB4540 – JURASSIC GEL Cyanoacrylate Adhesive

This thick, gel adhesive was designed to bridge serious gaps where serious strenght is needed. It permits to achieve a surface insensitive curing within 15.

Thread Locking

Vibration may cause such problems as self-loosening of threads. By applying the Cyberbond « T » series, this problem is solved. Cyberbond maintains the on-torque given on a thread, which prevents the self-loosening process. At the same time, Cyberbond fills the voids in the threads, seals the threads and prevents corrosion.

Liquid Cyberbond is simply applied out of the bottle or tube. After assembly, it will cure completely and fix the mating parts. The complete thread should be wetted to ensure the load is distributed along the total length of the thread. A slight thixotropic nature of the products helps prevent the product flowing away and is responsible for optimal coverage of the thread.

By selecting the correct Cyberbond grade, use of mechanical aids may not be necessary. When choosing a product, consideration should be made to the various strength classes available, together with the material of the thread itself and its design. If threads need to be disassembled (e.g. a nut is positioned in a difficult to reach area) but has to be re-opened later, then no more than a medium strength grade should be used.

Retaining

Cyberbond durably and reliably retains threads, shafts and bearings. Generally the need to dismantle these joints easily is not required. Therefore the high strength retainers of the Cyberbond « R » series range meet the requirements of these types of joints. When Cyberbond is used a uniform stress distribution throughout the joint is achieved, which means dynamical and static loads can easily be withstood. In contrast to the benefits of these modern liquid retainers, traditional cylindrical assembly methods do have the following disadvantages:

  • In the case of press fits or shrink fits, high machinery costs are involved and the parts have to be designed very accurately and become very expensive joints.
  • In common drive assemblies, pins, splines or adjusting springs are often used, which have the disadvantage of fretting corrosion and high punctual stress.
Due to various elongation figures in different metals, a welding or soldering process is quite often limited. When Cyberbond retainers are selected all these disadvantages disappear. Even when the retainers cure at room temperature, multiple strength values can be achieved, compared to assembly methods where adhesives have not been used. When Cyberbond retainers are used, the following advantages are gained:
  • Small gaps can be bridged which allows for less costly designed mating parts.
  • Friction corrosion is avoided.
  • Assembly of parts having different elongation figures is possible.

Sealing

Sealing of Threads

Besides sealing fine threads, Cyberbond « S » series can also seal pipefittings due to its ability to resist most chemicals. As with threadlocking, the space between the threads is completely filled with adhesive and this seals the fitting. Depending on which sealant has been selected, initial leak tests may be carried out immediately as the liquid sealant cures relatively quickly.

Sealing of Flanges

In many cases, Cyberbond « S » series products are able to replace traditional rigid joint faces. When used to seal a flange, Cyberbond offers the advantage of protecting the joint against corrosion. Due to the various strength classes available, a designer has the possibility to design different types of joints. For example, this concerns a joint that is easy to disassemble, or the choice to improve the mechanical resistance of the total construction of the joint by selecting a higher strength product. Cyberbond flange sealants are resistant to the more popular oils and gases. Also sealing tests up to1 bar can be carried out immediately when parts have been fully assembled.
Another great advantage of the Cyberbond sealant « S »series is that no joint settlement will take place. Compared to traditional rigid flanges there is no need to re-tighten the flange bolts.
The storage of just one liquid gasket compared to many solid types offers further benefits. The application of Cyberbond is simple and very quick. If on a large and fast production line then normally robots or silkscreen methods are used. On smaller production lines or in the case of maintenance then Cyberbond can be applied simply from the bottle or tube. A brush can also be used to distribute the product. Complicated designs and joints are easily sealed using the Cyberbond « S » series of products, but a certain overlap width must be granted (about 5 mm min.; about 3 mm min. around bold holes).
