Retaining

Cyberbond durably and reliably retains threads, shafts and bearings. Generally the need to dismantle these joints easily is not required. Therefore the high strength retainers of the Cyberbond « R » series range meet the requirements of these types of joints. When Cyberbond is used a uniform stress distribution throughout the joint is achieved, which means dynamical and static loads can easily be withstood. In contrast to the benefits of these modern liquid retainers, traditional cylindrical assembly methods do have the following disadvantages:

  • In the case of press fits or shrink fits, high machinery costs are involved and the parts have to be designed very accurately and become very expensive joints.
  • In common drive assemblies, pins, splines or adjusting springs are often used, which have the disadvantage of fretting corrosion and high punctual stress.
Due to various elongation figures in different metals, a welding or soldering process is quite often limited. When Cyberbond retainers are selected all these disadvantages disappear. Even when the retainers cure at room temperature, multiple strength values can be achieved, compared to assembly methods where adhesives have not been used. When Cyberbond retainers are used, the following advantages are gained:
  • Small gaps can be bridged which allows for less costly designed mating parts.
  • Friction corrosion is avoided.
  • Assembly of parts having different elongation figures is possible.

Sealing

Sealing of Threads

Besides sealing fine threads, Cyberbond « S » series can also seal pipefittings due to its ability to resist most chemicals. As with threadlocking, the space between the threads is completely filled with adhesive and this seals the fitting. Depending on which sealant has been selected, initial leak tests may be carried out immediately as the liquid sealant cures relatively quickly.

Sealing of Flanges

In many cases, Cyberbond « S » series products are able to replace traditional rigid joint faces. When used to seal a flange, Cyberbond offers the advantage of protecting the joint against corrosion. Due to the various strength classes available, a designer has the possibility to design different types of joints. For example, this concerns a joint that is easy to disassemble, or the choice to improve the mechanical resistance of the total construction of the joint by selecting a higher strength product. Cyberbond flange sealants are resistant to the more popular oils and gases. Also sealing tests up to1 bar can be carried out immediately when parts have been fully assembled.
Another great advantage of the Cyberbond sealant « S »series is that no joint settlement will take place. Compared to traditional rigid flanges there is no need to re-tighten the flange bolts.
The storage of just one liquid gasket compared to many solid types offers further benefits. The application of Cyberbond is simple and very quick. If on a large and fast production line then normally robots or silkscreen methods are used. On smaller production lines or in the case of maintenance then Cyberbond can be applied simply from the bottle or tube. A brush can also be used to distribute the product. Complicated designs and joints are easily sealed using the Cyberbond « S » series of products, but a certain overlap width must be granted (about 5 mm min.; about 3 mm min. around bold holes).

Generalities

Material Compatibility

Generally, silicone materials have the following impact on material properties:
Silicone Rubber – Tends to swell, soften and decrease in tensile strength.
Fluoro Rubber – No effect.
Organic Rubber – Slight shrinkage, hardening and loss of physical properties.
Plastic – No effect on polycarbonate, phenolic, polystyrene nylon, methacrylics or PTFE. Slight
swelling or shrinkage may occur in polyacetal, polyethylene, polypropylene or PVC.

Methods of Application

Silicone greases and compounds may be wiped on, brushed on, dispensed from a grease gun or applied by automated equipment. In addition, when dispersed in a non-polar solvent they may be applied by brushing, spraying or dip coating. Caution is required in the selection of solvents.

Handling and Safety

Material Safety Data sheets are available upon request from Novagard Solutions.

Cleanup of silicone greases and compounds can be accomplished using non-polar solvents such as mineral spirits. They are soluble in stoddard solvent, toluene and xylene. Caution should be observed whenever handling solvents.

Silicone greases are not suitable for use in contact with high concentrations of oxygen or highly oxidative materials. Contact with high pressure oxygen, ozone, peroxides or fuming nitric acid can result in fire or explosion. Silicone materials are damaged by exposure to strong mineral acids (e.g. sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric), strong alkaline (e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxides), nitrates or peroxides.

PanelPUR A2

Effective 1.10.2010, CE-labelling according to EN 14509 for self-supporting metal-sandwich insulation panels will be mandatory in the EU. Mineral-wool panel manufacturers will only have the opportunity to label their products according to EN 14509 Class A2 if the appropriate adhesive-systems are used.

For compliance with EN 14509 A2, Kleiberit has developed the new PanelPUR A2 series. It enables mineral- wool panel producers to choose the appropriate A2 adhesive system according their production-needs (e.g. wiper technology or spray application, continuous or discontinuous). PanelPUR A2 stays for “Production cost savings, without compromising quality”.

The PanelPUR A2 product range is comprised of filled and non-filled 1C and 2C PUR adhesive systems either with standard reactivity-profile or a special thermoactivated version for a long open time and short press time.

Developed specifically for the mineral wool panel market, PanelPUR A2 – a filled 2C PUR adhesive  – has a low gross calorific  potential (PCS) and a very low viscosity. As a result, it offers better processing and distribution characteristics than alternatives currently available on the market.

The low gross calorific potential of PanelPUR A2 is particularly important for the manufacture of micro-profiled mineral wool panels, enabling the correct amount of adhesive to be applied without compromising the required A2 performance.

Advantages

In addition to its low gross calorific potential, PanelPUR A2 offers an increased processing window guaranteeing high quality and stable production. The processing temperatures can be lowered due to a reduced initial viscosity resulting in substantial energy savings.

• Filled Systems with low viscosity at room-temperature
• Excellent and stable processing properties
• Increased application quantities possible due to low PCS values
• Excellent tensile-strength figures achievable.
• DUR2 and Wedge-test passed.

The controlled foaming characteristics offeres sufficient flexibility whilst still providing a strong and tough final bond that allows lower coat weights to be used and still obtain very good panel performance.

PanelPUR A2 can be applied using high and low pressure spray jet-stream techniques as well as with wiper technology.
